NBTE Accredits Six new Programmes for Oyo College of Agriculture

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Team, Kaduna has finally granted interim accreditation to Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora to run six (6) new programmes.

In a letter, dated October 11, 2018 and signed by the Director of programmes, Mallam Musa Isgogo on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Adamu Kazaure, stated that, “with reference to the resource inspection visitation carried out by the Board between 1st – 4th August, 2018, I am directed to inform you that the Board has granted accreditation to your institution to offer the following programmes with effect from 2018/2019 session.”

The new programmes include; National Diploma (ND) Mechanical Engineering, (ND), Computer Engineering, (ND) Business Administration, and (ND) Statistics, (ND) Horticultural Technology, and Office Technology and Management.

The Board also called on the institution to commence admission for the newly accredited programmes for the 2018/2019 session, immediately.

The NBTE however, directed that the College should ensure that the facilities for the programmes are upgraded before the commencement of the second year of the programmes with additional equipment and instrument.

It stated further that the programmes would be due for full accreditation visitation when the first set of students are in their forth semester, while failure to invite the NBTE within the specified period would disqualify the institution from making further admission into the programmes.

Meanwhile, with the approval granted for the mounting of the additional programmes, the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora has been recognized and approved by the NBTE as a Polytechnic.

In addition, a copy of the approval letter has been made available to the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

In his reaction, to the development, the Provost of the College, Professor Gbemiga Adewale noted that the approval would further create more spaces for teeming number of Nigerian youths who desire tertiary education and could hardly matriculate due to inadequate spaces in tertiary institutions and lack of expansion of facilities in various tertiary institutions in the country.

He added that with the status of the institution as a polytechnic, the college now has the opportunity to access TETFund like their counterparts.
